The Chinese Dharmaguptaka Vinaya records that while wandering in the Malla country (a tribal country of ancient India) the Buddha came to the city of Pāvā, where Ānanda's old friend Roja the Malla was won over, attained the and as a male ; the Buddha then went on to Ātumā. This route resembles the Buddha's passage through Pāvā in his last year, but the text gives no year.
Different Accounts
This passage was formerly cited as a variant account in the last-journey entry “The Buddha reaches Pāvā, and Cunda invites him to a meal”; it is now given an entry of its own for cross-reference.
Dating
The year is unknown, and there is no range from which it could be estimated, so no age is given. The text gives no time, and whether it is the same journey as the last journey cannot be determined.
