Later works of the Southern tradition say that “in the ninth year the six Sakyan youths went forth at Kosambī”, and another work gives the place of the ninth as the cotton-tree grove at Kosambī; both are placed here only in the appendix. The statement in the Chinese Sapoduo pini piposha that ordination by formal act began “eight years after the Awakening” falls, when converted, in the ninth year; see the entry for this year, “A treatise says: only eight years after the Awakening was ordination by formal act adopted”.
Different Accounts
There are several other views on the year in which the six Sakyan youths went forth; no additional candidate year is added here on the strength of this late work.
Dating
This entry only lists other records connected with the ninth year and is not a single event; the year is given by late works and is not adopted here, so the year is uncertain.
