Year 33 after the Awakening, the Buddha sixty-seven; the is at Sāvatthī. There are still no events this year with the year stated; the texts of the Sāvatthī years record only the place of the teaching, see “Texts of the Sāvatthī years”. The sutras and rules listed below are those estimated to fall in the Buddha's later years on the basis of clues in the texts, such as mention of old age or of which king was reigning.
The Rains Retreat
According to the later commentaries, in his later years the Buddha kept the rains retreat at Sāvatthī, staying at the Jeta Grove or at Migāramātā's Mansion in the Eastern Park, with no year-by-year record of which; the Chinese also says that from Year 26 to Year 44 he spent nineteen consecutive years in the country of Sāvatthī.
