The Buddha is sixty-six this year, and again spends the rains retreat at Sāvatthī . Neither the canonical texts nor the later commentaries identify any event of this year; the discourses given at Sāvatthī at this time do not state the year, so they are placed under “Texts of the Sāvatthī years” rather than forced into a single year.
The Rains Retreat According to the later commentaries, in his later years the Buddha kept the rains retreat at fixed places in Sāvatthī, the Jeta Grove and the Eastern Park, and this year was spent there too; the Chinese Sengqieluocha suoji jing also says the Buddha kept nineteen rains retreats in the country of Sāvatthī , and this year counts as the seventh of them.
