After the passing｜The Life of the Buddha

This section records what happened after the Buddha : the honouring of the body for seven days, the cremation, and the division of the into eight portions, each with its own stūpa. These events follow immediately on the passing, and are still counted here in Year 45 after the Awakening, after the . The is listed only as a pointer to what followed and is not narrated.

The Rains Retreat

The Buddha had passed away, and there is no rains retreat in this section; the events take place at Kusinārā and in the places where the various countries took the relics home.
