The countries send envoys to Kusinārā demanding a share of the Buddha's , on grounds such as “the Buddha was a khattiya, and we too are khattiyas”. The Mallas of Kusinārā refuse on the grounds that “the Buddha passed away within our territory”, and the armies of the countries arrive before the city. The Pali canon of the Southern tradition lists seven parties, including King Ajātasattu of Magadha, the Licchavis of Vesālī and the Sakyans of Kapilavatthu; the Moriyas, who arrive late, receive only the embers of the cremation. - Dating Evidence and Precision
Inferred from the sequence of events (neither the canonical texts nor the commentaries give the time; the year is worked out from the order of this event and those around it). Time precision: year only.
