The Buddha at 35

This section covers the Bodhisatta on the eve of the Awakening: he gives up the austerities and takes food again, bathes in the Nerañjarā and accepts milk-rice, then spreads grass beneath the Bodhi tree, sits down, and repels the assault of Māra. The Buddha is thirty-five this year, and what follows is the Awakening beneath the Bodhi tree (see Year 1 after the Awakening). The sources differ on when the five great dreams before the Awakening occurred; they are placed in this section by the order of events.
